Tim Sullivan
Tim has over 35 years of industrial experience with knowledge in the general areas of Medical Device Product Development and Polymer Processing. He has an MS in Material Science and PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of California, San Diego and worked for AT&T Bell Laboratories for 5 yrs, Warner-Lambert (now Pfizer) for 3 yrs and Becton Dickinson (BD) for 27 yrs. The focus of his graduate studies was polymer processing, coating flows and numerical modeling, which he continued at AT&T. An opportunity to join a new venture developing biodegradable plastics drew him to Warner-Lambert, where he established a laboratory for characterizing the physical and mechanical properties. He started his career with BD as Manager, Polymer Processing at the central research center, but soon transitioned over to process and product development for medical devices associated with infectious disease diagnostics. He has experience developing pilot processes and scaling up to a high-volume manufacturing. Products he helped develop ranged from single use consumables to large electro-mechanical diagnostic instruments used in clinical laboratories. He has experience with 510ks and the full range of a Class 3 FDA PMA approval. In his final years with BD as Associate Director of R&D, he implemented a cost-cutting initiative relocating sustaining engineering for legacy products from the US to Ireland.
