Congressman Price represents North Carolina’s Fourth District, a rapidly growing, research-and-education-focused district that includes the heart of the RTP and First Flight Venture Center.
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. (April 26, 2016) – First Flight Venture Center (FFVC), a science and technology incubator for entrepreneurs in North Carolina, will host Congressman David Price during National Small Business Week, May 3rd, 10:30-11:30 a.m. The Congressman will visit FFVC to hear stories of why federally funded research grant programs are critical to First Flight companies. Four FFVC companies will present to the Congressman and audience their stories and backgrounds. This highly anticipated event is free and open to the public.
In North Carolina, Congressman Price is known as a strong supporter of our universities and research funding, both basic and leading to commercial development. Congressman Price understands the importance of federal investments in biomedical, environmental, and technology research to the Fourth District’s economic success. From his position on the Appropriations Committee, he supported the effort to double funding for the NIH over five years and has pressed for a similar boost in NSF.
“Like many of the start-ups that incubate at FFVC, having federally funded research grants is critical for the creation and survival of these companies. First Flight has created LiftOff to increase the potential for our companies to achieve a higher success rate.” explained Andrew Schwab, President, First Flight Venture Center.
“We are excited to host Congressman Price at FFVC. By having our companies tell their stories they will demonstrate the importance of SBIR and STTR grant dollars and provide the real world case for continued and increased federal funding through its agencies to advance the commercialization technology developed here in North Carolina.” said Mary Musacchia, Chair First Flight Board of Directors.
First Flight Venture Center is located at 2 Davis Drive in Research Triangle Park, NC. Questions about this event, contact President Andrew Schwab at [email protected] or to register for this free event, visit the FFVC website at http://ffvcnc.org/.
